Hi everybody!
It's getting cold here in Lyon so it's time to put on our coats... Anyway I have too much to do so I stay all the day at home...
Today, I'd like to speak about a super event that's coming very soon.... HALLOWEEN!!!!
Oh my God, I'm scared!!
Halloween is a holiday that takes place during the night of October 31. Actually, Halloween is a words contraction that means All Hallows' Evening. Halloween is also known as Hallowe'en or All Hallows' Eve.
Its origins are an ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain, when they celebrated the end of the harvest season in the Gaelic culture. Because they believed boundaries and dead overlapped come back to life to kill alive people. Oh, well, we still think it!
During Halloween night, many traditional activities are developed:
- Trick or treat
- Bonfires
- Costume parties
- Visiting "haunted houses"
Today, so many people celebrate this great event. It's very fun and children love it! So, why not celebrate it in class?
There are many resources on the cloud to be taken to bring them to the class. During these lasts weeks, I've been investigating about American teachers blogs. I have to say, now I finally have a favourite teacher's blog!!! It's name is I want to be a super teacher and it's full of wonderful resources like for Halloween party. This woman is an American teacher and in her schoolthey are organizing a Halloween costumes party.
One of the activities that she proposes is working with adjectives by filling in a Trick or treat sheet. We could also use this kind of activity to describe Halloween and to use other kind of vocabulary.
There is a nice activity that I personally like: cooking!! Why not? I think it's really important to motivate children to eat healthy. There are many problems with children that don't eat properly. But perhaps, if you let your children cook, for sure they have fun and then, they will eat because they have cooked it!
So it would be nice if I could do a "culinaire" activity with my children about halloween. As I love baking, I'd prepare some cupcakes for children to decorate them with Halloween's things.
